Illinois Constructors (ICC)
is expected to reconstruct the Shermer Road bridge in Northbrook, Ill.,
by the end of 2013 for the Union Pacific Railroad (UP). A new, more
expansive bridge will be built in place of the fallen bridge that
collapsed last year.
Work on the new
bridge and roadway is underway. Site work has started just to the south
of the Willow and Shermer roads intersection, and the bridge work is
proceeding on schedule. In addition to the UP, Illlinois Constructors
will be working closely with the Village of Northbrook to complete the
construction project and keep the Village up to date throughout the
process.
"The construction
start on the bridge was expedited faster than the previous estimates of
the 2014 construction schedule due to the excellent cooperation between
the State of Illinois, Glenview, Northbrook, and the Union Pacific. We
were able to obtain permits earlier than expected which allowed us to
start the project now," says Illinois Constructors President John
Mackanin.
Roadway traffic will be closed until early-2014, and the bridge is expected to be open to rail traffic by the end of 2013.
